(DECATUR, Ala.) A utility crew from Alabama is clearing up rumors they were turned away from helping in the northeast after Sandy.

Crews from Decatur Utilities and Huntsville headed north earlier this week. A report said crews were told they cannot do any work since they are not union employees.

Friday Decatur Utilities confirmed their crews were held in Virginia before arriving in the northeast. They were told Seaside Heights, New Jersey had received assistance elsewhere, so they were not needed.

Decatur Utilities says at no time were their crews turned away.

Alabama Power also says their crews are union and have not been turned away as they help in the northeast.
