(BIRMINGHAM, Ala.) Alabama Power celebrated a milestone Tuesday. The company turned 112 years old.
The company was founded on Dec. 4, 1906. At that time, Alabama was an agricultural state where 90 percent of the population had no electricity. As the 20th century began, "a few men had dreams of lighting Alabama and transforming the lives of its citizens," a historical recount of the company says on its website.
