Placement and out placement services are good avenue for finding a job. If you're about to graduate college, it never hurts to visit your college placement office, for possible leads. They might post ads from employers in your field, or be able to supply you with the names of people you can contact. Best of all, the information is free, and it's right there on campus. So by all means, use it as part of your job search. Those who are already in the workplace, and are being laid off from a job, may have another option. Some companies in this situation offer outplacement services, whose purpose is to help you find a new job. Again, since it's free, you might as well pursue it. However, you'll need to also launch a thorough job search on your own. And if given a choice between severance pay and outplacement, you're usually better off to choose the extra money.
