The UTV44 High School Game of the Week presented by Whataburger headed down Old Shell Road for the 5A Region 1 match up between the Vigor Wolves and the St. Paul’s Saints.
The outcome of this game will say a lot about how the region will finish up, so both teams wanted to win this game.
The Saints struck first, on their first possession of the game quarterback Bradley Padgett found Kylen Towner for an 86 yard touchdown reception.
That would be the only score for the first half as each team only traded punts.
St. Paul’s would get the ball first to start the second half, but on the first play they fumbled and Vigor recovered the ball.
Looking to get on the board, Vigor quarterback Devin Adams found Shaquil Ward for a 34 yard reception. This helped the Wolves get into scoring position. Adams finished the 6 play drive off by getting into the end zone on a one yard rush. The game was now tied 7-7 in the 3rd quarter.
The start of the 4th quarter saw the Saints with the ball. Jordan Huff was able to find the end zone on a 40 yard run. Huff ended the night with 7 carries for 72 yards and the one touchdown. The Saints now had a 14-7 lead over the Wolves.
Not to be outdone, the Wolves struck back, and did so quickly. Devin Adams hit Steven Watts for a 67 yard touchdown reception. Adams finished the night 15 for 29 for 192 yards. The game was now tied at 14-14 still early in the 4th quarter.
Both teams once again traded punts, with St. Paul’s getting the ball with less than two minutes to go in the game. During the drive Huff had a big 12 yard rush to help get the Saints into field goal position. Yannick Wildruant came out to attempt a 30 yard field goal to win the game. The Wolves were able to block the kick and send the game into overtime.
The Saints got the ball first in overtime. Unable to find the end zone, the Saints settled for a 30 yard field goal from Yannick Wildruant. The Saints had a 17-14 lead with Vigor now getting the ball.
After five plays, Vigor’s DeSherrius Flowers found the end zone after a 4 yard run. Flowers finished the night with 12 carries for 53 yards. The Wolves won 20-17 in overtime.
Vigor improves to 6-2 overall and 5-1 in the region. The Wolves will host their last region game against Faith Academy.
St. Paul’s falls to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in the region. The Saints will travel to LeFlore for their final region game this year.
