Tonight’s UTV 44 High School Game of the Week presented by Subway showcased Round #3 of the state playoffs between the Spanish Fort Toros vs. Vigor Wolves
This game is a rematch from the regular season in which the Wolves won 7-0 over the Toros.
Vigor was the first to get on the board in the 1st quarter. Marlon Moore ran the ball into the end zone on a 14 yard run. The Wolves missed the extra point so they were now up 6-0 half way through the first quarter.
The Wolves struck again late in the first quarter when receiver Rodney Stafford caught a 19 yard touchdown reception. Again the Wolves missed the extra point, they were now up 12-0 over the Toros.
The start of the 2nd quarter, the Toros looked to finally get on the board. After an eight play, 51 yard drive they succeeded by kicking a 26 yard field goal by Alexander Theodore. The Toros were now only down 12-3 in the second quarter.
In the middle of the 2nd quarter, the Toros’s DeShawn Davis was able to pick off the Wolves, but the Toros could not capitalize on the turnover.
The two teams went into the half with the score 12-3 in favor of Vigor.
Half way through the 4th quarter the Toros closed the gap on the scoreboard after Deon Johnson found the end zone on a 4 yard run. The Toros were now only down 12-9 in the 4th.
Looking to take the lead, Spanish Fort start moving the ball down field until Derius Johnson of Vigor was able to force Deon Johnson to fumble the ball while DeShaun Davis recovered the ball for Vigor.
The Vigors were able to hold on with a 12-9 3rd round victory over the Toros. The Wolves head to the semi-finals to face Hueytown for the chance to go to the finals.
Spanish Fort finished the season with a record of 9-4.
