The UTV44 High School Game of the Week presented by Whataburger features one of
Alabama’s oldest high school rivalries, the “
Battle of the Cannon.” between the Murphy Panthers and the McGill-Toolen Yellow Jackets.
McGill heads into this game undefeated and ranked number two in the state. 2nd year head coach Bart Sessions and starting quarterback Jason Smith are looking to avenge last year’s loss when the Panthers defeated McGill and ended a perfect season. The Yellow Jackets have won 13 straight region games along with 14 straight home games. The offense, led by Smith, averages 40.9 points per game, while the defense is only giving up 15.9 points per game.
The Panthers are looking to rebound after last week’s loss to Alma Bryant and stay in the playoff hunt. The Panthers offense is averaging 30.1 points per game and has a defense that is only giving up 22 points per game.
It’s the Region 1 finale between the Panthers and the Yellow Jackets at Lipscomb Stadium and the winner will paint the cannon.
Kickoff is Friday at 7pm and replay on Saturday at 7pm only on UTV44.
