It's going to be an unseasonably warm January afternoon with highs reaching the low 70s. Wet weather across Mississippi and Louisiana will shift a little eastward later today, but for the most part showers stay west of the area. Our Mississippi counties and other locales west of the I-65 corridor will get the bulk of the spotty showers this afternoon. Good news is these showers will bring a little relief to the sticky air mass we have in place.
Dense fog develops overnight, especially along our immediate coastline. Sea fog is going to be a big problem for mariners tomorrow morning. Visibility out in coastal waters and areas south of I-10 could go down to one quarter of a mile or less.
A cold front begins to cross the area tomorrow. This front will enhance our storm threat to 80% during the afternoon through the evening hours. Chances for severe weather look low but a few strong storms cannot be ruled out. The active weather winds down Friday morning. At this point, our Mardi Gras forecast is just fine for the first parade of the season. The Krewe de la Dauphine is set to roll at 1pm on Dauphin Island this Saturday, and for now it looks to be dry. Temps hold in the mid 70s the first half of the weekend, with upper 70s by Sunday. Wet weather returns Monday and Tuesday.
