Our rainy days are about to come to an end. A cold front will move through the region later tonight and once it clears the area, rain chances will go down and sunshine will return. Tonight, however will be another noisy night with heavy storms and lots of lightning. An additional 2-3" of rain is possible before its all said and done by midnight. I am more concerned about a flooding threat tonight rather than tornadoes. The warm front that has been offshore all day still hasn't moved inland as it was expected. This is keeping the more humid and warmer air in the Gulf, an ingredient tornadoes need to form. If this remains the case, which is looking more likely....we will NOT see a tornado threat materialize. We will still see some strong storms, but nothing that we haven't seen already. Tonight looks very similar to what we saw this past weekend, with heavy storms and locally heavy rainfall. We will monitor the situation through the night.
Once the cold front clears the region Tuesday morning, sunshine will return and it will be rather breezy by afternoon. Highs in the mid 60s can be expected. Temperatures will drop around 40 Tuesday night and into the upper 30s on Wednesday night. Both Tuesday and Wednesday will be the best days weatherwise this week, with Wednesday being slightly better than Tuesday due to less wind.
A strong cold front will move through the area late Wednesday into early Thursday. This front will signal a chance to more winter-like weather, temperature-wise for the Gulf Coast. Highs on Thursday will barely reach 60 with 50s expected Friday through Sunday. Plants will need to be brought inside, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday morning as temperatures fall well into the 30s. By Saturday, Sunday and Monday morning, we could see some 20s inland. Warmer weather returns next week, beginning Monday afternoon.
