The cold front that moved through the region Monday will stall just offshore tonight. Waves of low pressure riding along the front will track from the west and move over the region tonight and Tuesday. Steady rain with a few thunderstorms will occur overnight and through the day Tuesday. The front will begin moving back toward the coast as a warm front on Tuesday afternoon. Temperatures in the 50s will rise into the 60s to around 70 near and south of the front as it pushes inland. The biggest question for Tuesday is how far inland will the front penetrate? Right now, the warm front is forecast to reach at least I-10, with a possibility of it moving farther north toward Hwy 84. Wind shear will be plentiful for severe storms, and warm, moist air south of the warm front will combine for a risk of severe storms including tornadoes, hail and damaging wind gusts.
The front will move back over the area Wednesday as a cold front, with cooler air moving back in behind it. Rain will continue, especially east Of I-65 through Wednesday morning, then taper off by afternoon. Dry weather is forecast for Valentine's Day and Friday with temperatures in the 60s and lows in the 30s and 40s. A strong arctic cold front will plunge into the region on Saturday, sending temperatures back into the 20s and 30s for lows with freezing potential by Sunday morning. The cold-snap will be short-lived as warmer weather returns early next week.
